Costa Rica

Show Notes: Dr Mary Travelbest Independent Travel Destination: Costa Rica

In this episode: FAQ is:  How can I get some rest on my vacation while keeping my sense of exploration?

The destination is Costa Rica

The lesson learned is to be surprised as a traveler

The tip is to ask God for help, that’s right, unless you ask, don’t expect an answer.

.

The FAQ How can I get some rest on my vacation while keeping my sense of exploration?

Answer:

We love to explore new places and learn about other cultures, but one day in seven we need to rest and recover. Taking a break can stimulate parts of your brain. Rests refresh. The present is not perfect, so let that be and take a rest so you can get a pause and then return to travel with a new attitude.

3 Tips for being restful.

  1. Close your eyes and your brain for longer and longer segments of time. If you have no time, then do it while you are between other activities.
  2. Breathe deep and fully exhale while you are lying down for a minute or longer.
  3. Schedule on your calendar some time for a nap and also get the sleep you need at night to fully recharge your cells.
  4.

Sure, sometimes you need a total recovery day if you're feeling entirely spent, but generally speaking, rest days are an in-between zone where you can still get moving in moderation. Light exercise, like gentle yoga, walking, swimming or stretching, are all good choices for the quickest recovery during a rest day. (google)

Today’s Independent Destination-Costa Rica

When you go visit Costa Rica, most likely you will land at the airport in San Jose, the capital city, and then take a shuttle to your hotel or destination. You may be renting a vehicle, or taking public transportation from the city to a resort.

Right away you will feel the humidity and so be sure you give yourself time to adjust to the different weather conditions. Drink lots of bottled water, or purified water so you are hydrated well.

I went to Costa Rica for a week, mostly for a business conference but while I was there, I managed to see a lot of the country.

One day, I had Lunch at the Hard Rock Café, near my hotel. I felt like I never left the USA. My daughter, Tina and I took a walk to a shopping center, over a bridge and found some good local culture. We were cheering on Costa Rica in their soccer championships.

During the week, I visited the Poas Volcano (inactive) and another day and active volcano, I hiked a national park, went to La Paz for lunch, and played with Butterflies on our fingers. We also had Toucans (birds, yes) on our hands and shoulders

We were able to see Frogs, snakes, jaguars, close up and in the wild, on a Boat crusie, I was able to see four kinds of monkeys, Cayman, crocodiles, herons, and turtles.

I took the Zipline Sarapiqui (sara peek wee) River Adventure

Climb up 50’ than swing through the trees. It was physically challenging. Each zip had something different. Unhook then hook then jump, then hook. Never put hands in front, only behind. I came in backwards on some zips. I hit my helmet with the brake. It was something that I will always remember from this trip and glad I did it, including the safety training in advance.

You may check out: Tortuga or turtle Park, on the Caribbean East Coast of Costa Rica is a safe haven for turtles. Turtles live up to 150 years and they have unique migration habits. Things that I was able to do on the way there included seeing an active volcano, a pineapple farm (Dole) a banana plantation,

The water here was brown, so not swimming water. You can and should drink coconut water from shell for the experience of it.

Things to bring home as souvenirs from Costa Rica include coffee, chocolate, handmade cloths, wooden items, jewelry,

One of the best times to visit is from the Midwest area around Chicago in January, when the temperature is low in the USA but High in Costa Rica.  My friends have gone there for years, the early part of January, so that may be good for you as well.

Today’s Lesson Learned-Be surprised.

Here’s a quote from W. Somerset Maugham (1874-1965), an English writer:

“The good traveler has the gift of surprise.” Be sure you bring that gift with you on your trip to make it even better.

Today’s Travel Tip-God is good.

Just knowing that God solves, forgives, nourishes and redeems us from our sins is what we need. We just must ask Him. Our citizenship is with the Lord.
