My backup plan was to hire a taxi and that worked out fine as I found another couple of travelers who had the same issue join my cab. My advice is to steer clear of this type of trouble. You are not geared for this as a traveler, so stay out of it. There is going to be unrest somewhere you go, sometime, but if you expect any trouble, get as far away as you can, quickly.  As an outsider, you’re not prepared to deal with the cause or the results. Stay away and be safe. This summer, while traveling in Minnesota, I purposefully went away from the areas where there was civil unrest in the area around Minneapolis. Answer: Readers are asking about the distinction.  Solo is by yourself, even if you’re not alone in the room. You could go to the movies or eat alone in a restaurant. That is solo. Fly on a plane with others, but you are not WITH anyone. Independent means you are probably with another person but not on an organized tour with a guide. So you are learning about the area with someone else. You could have that person as a companion; usually, that would be a friend or family member. Travel Advice:  Colorful luggage or distinctive touches FAQ:  Should I use sunscreen and does it cause cancers?   Answer: Yes, you should use it, and be aware that there are some connections with sunscreen and certain chemicals in the sunscreen has side effects. Be aware of these. My doctor referred to a study that certain sunscreen chemicals are absorbed by the skin and processed through the bones, and weakening them in some cases. He said there is a connection between it and osteoporosis.
