Today’s Destination is: Normandy, France Today’s Mistake- Bringing too many heavy books Travel Advice:  Write your Thank you’s in snail mail. Today’s destination: Normandy, France Located in the northern part of France, you will find Normandy the place to see WW2 beachheads, including Omaha Beach, the site of the D-Day landing. One warning here is don’t try to get to this destination on a Sunday, as public transportation is not running. That’s what happened to me. My backup plan was to hire a taxi and that worked out fine as I found another couple of travelers who had the same issue join my cab. Seeing the cemetery at Omaha Beach is breathtaking, and the museum on the grounds is worth it. This part of France belongs to the US.  You'll find other beaches and  museums in the region also. The area is...

Best of Vermont

Welcome to Dr. Mary Travelbest: In this episode: FAQ is how to deal with trouble in the streets when you are on the road:   Destination is Vermont, and who doesn’t like fall colors? The mistake and lessons learned is about poison ivy and the travel tip is about blood clots while traveling, especially on long plane trips.   FAQ If I run into “trouble” like a strike, police in the streets, angry shouting mobs, what should I do? My advice is to steer clear of this type of trouble. You are not geared for this as a traveler, so stay out of it. There is going to be unrest somewhere you go, sometime, but if you expect any trouble, get as far away as you can, quickly.  As an outsider, you’re not prepared to deal with the cause or the results. Stay away and be safe. This summer, while traveling in Minnesota, I purposefully went away from the areas where there was civil unrest in the area around Minneapolis. I would recommend the same for you. You want to stay aware of this by...

Las Vegas, 2023

In this episode: FAQ is: What is the difference between solo and independent travel?   Today’s Destination is: Las Vegas, 2023   Today’s Mistake- Leaky bladder   Travel Advice:  Book your hotel directly  FAQ: What is the difference between solo and independent travel? Answer: Readers are asking about the distinction.  Solo is by yourself, even if you’re not alone in the room. You could go to the movies or eat alone in a restaurant. That is solo. Fly on a plane with others, but you are not WITH anyone. Independent means you are probably with another person but not on an organized tour with a guide. So you are learning about the area with someone else. You could have that person as a companion; usually, that would be a friend or family member. Today’s destination: Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2023   Las Vegas is good in small bites. For me, it’s a Two-night maximum. What’s there to do? A lot, but get out of town and see the natural wonders if yo...

Travel Advice:  Colorful luggage or distinctive touches FAQ:  Should I use sunscreen and does it cause cancers?   Answer: Yes, you should use it, and be aware that there are some connections with sunscreen and certain chemicals in the sunscreen has side effects. Be aware of these. My doctor referred to a study that certain sunscreen chemicals are absorbed by the skin and processed through the bones, and weakening them in some cases. He said there is a connection between it and osteoporosis. If you, like me have osteoporosis, be careful about how much sunscreen you use. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7759112/ Today’s destination: Knoxville, TN   https://www.visitknoxville.com/ Ghost House Loop Trail Tharp’s Trace     Connect with Dr. Travelbest Drmarytravelbe...
