Travel Independent Spectrum

Dr. Mary Travelbest’s on the Travel Independent Spectrum

This special episode during the physical distancing requirements allows for some new insights and new ways to think about travel, especially for women who like to travel independently.

The FAQ is What is your favorite thing about traveling solo? The episode is about the Travel Independent Spectrum, the mistake is the wrong hole in one and tips are for stretching from your seat.

Today’s Episode is about the Travel Independent Spectrum

What kind of a traveler are you?

This is the official launch of the new term, The Travel Independent Spectrum, which is a way to measure your level of the type of traveler you are.

This book that I’m writing will help you find your way matched to your level of travel experience.
There are five levels so far, and there may be more in the future.
For now, Level 1 is the non-experienced. You are ready to begin though.
Level 2 is some solo travel, but mostly group travel.
Level 3 is Traveled independent to a different state or country.
Level 4 is Several independent trips, but not in a foreign language country
Level 5,  Been to many different countries and has been challenged in independent travel.

To Get Going, what you need to go?
The Travel Independent Spectrum:

What kind of a traveler do you think you are? I’ll help you find your level and meet that type of travel. I want to get you to see yourself on at least one level of the spectrum of  experience.

We can go into some examples here if you like:
Levels of travel independence:
Level 1: no experience by ready to start. You can start at a city where you have a family member or friend where you can stay with them. It could be Boston, New York or even a suburban town in Montana, but it’s relatively close to your home state and not for an extended time.
Level 2: some solo travel, but mostly group travel or stay home, if you live in Illinois and visit to Ohio or something like state to state travel for an extended time, on your own completely.
Level 3: Traveled independent to a different state or country, For example, Canada, Hawaii, or Alaska, or Mexico
Level 4: Several independent trips already but not in a foreign language country, for example, Australia, New Zealand or Ireland/ UK
Level 5: Been to many different countries that are challenging to travel, for example Africa, and visit some countries like Kenya or Tanzania.

Today’s Mistake-The wrong hole, hole in one.
Yes, I had a hole in one. Once. Only it was the wrong hole. So, it doesn’t count. Here’s what happened. I was on the short course at a golf course in Southern California. I hit the ball on the 12th tee. I lost the ball, so I had to start with a second one. Then on the 15th hole my ball was found in the cup. That’s where it landed about 20 minutes earlier. So strange, but still a mistake.

Today’s Travel Advice- ten stretches for the traveler you can do while seated:
Head nods, neck tilts, shoulder shrugs, shoulder rolls, side stretches, spine twists, hip flexor knee lifts, hamstring stretch, ankle rolls, upper body stretches. Do these on an airplane, bus or just waiting for your next destination.

What’s on your bucket list?

RIP Dean Alphonso Buell

Celebrating the life of Dean Alphonso Buell in April, 2012 with his mom and two friends. Dr. Travelbest is priviledged to know Raquel Giraldez, mother of the deceased, as she was the designer and illustrator and most travelled friend of Dr. Travelbest in 1993 as the book was being written and published. Dean was involved with the editorial, even though he was a youngster at the time. Thanks, Dean, for sharing your mom so that Dr. Travelbest could teach others about Independent Travel. Speaking of travel, this is the view from the front yard of Raquel's home in Buellton, CA. The mountains in the distant background are picture postcard on this memorable day, right near the 101. (Photos: top: view from Raquels, bottom: center, Raquel and right, Rosanna Figuerola (sp?) at the Celebration of Dean's 24 years on the earth.) There were so many stars that night, we knew that Dean was watching us from above with his new friends.

I want to travel independently, does that makes sense? Written by: Lizandra Jimenez Rodriguez When traveling becomes a great passion, you usually keep a bucket list framed at your desk or in the lock screen of your phone. You never stop planning or deciding when, where, and how to get to the next place. There are tons of ways to travel, however, independent travel has been always a popular one for those seeking adventure, exploring on their own, or simply trying to get away from the traditional and superficial (for some) tourist routine. A myth we need to forget is that independent travel is not all about backpacking in Europe or climbing the Everest; in fact, it can be done in many ways including different levels of budget and luxury. Also, independent travel can be done solo or with an affinity group with a particularly crafted itinerary. This makes it very different from escorted traveling of course. Companies have understood how escorted traveling is not for everyone and to
