Ensenada, Mexico

Show Notes Destination: Ensenada, Mexico
Caption: Wineries near Ensenada, Mexico Welcome to Dr. Mary Travelbest’s Travel Guide, an episode for women like you who need a little extra support traveling the world, (slowly) one woman at a time. In this episode: FAQ is: I travel with my family and this trip I want to be by myself or maybe with a girlfriend. Is that wrong? Today’s Destination is: Ensenada, Mexico Today’s Mistake- I’ve made so many mistakes Travel Advice: Leave some days unplanned, so you have time to enjoy the freedom you have FAQ: You asked about solo travel, without your family. Is that wrong? Answer: It’s a personal choice you can make, so think about it. Do you have someone to care for your family while you travel? Will they be able to feed, dress and take care of themselves without you? If you can say yes to these questions, you should be able to make the trip. You are able to do the solo trip you always wanted to take. You can even take a quiz online to see if you should travel solo or with a buddy. https://frayedpassport.com/quiz-should-you-travel-solo-or-with-a-buddy/ Today’s destination: Ensenada, Mexico Highly educated people, and more doctors per capita than any city in the world, Ensenada is known for medical tourism, and I like the culture that you find downtown. The harbor and waterfront area are popular, and once a casino, the Riviera de Ensenada is a cultural center now. There are museums to see and an outdoor fish market which is not to miss. https://bajadock.wordpress.com/tag/ensenada-fish-market/ https://www.eternal-expat.com/2019/01/23/best-seafood-in-ensenada/ It's an 80-mile drive south from San Diego, with all that you would want for authentic Mexican food, culture and nightlife. You will find rest and outdoor recreation, too. I’ve been here for surfing, kayaking, mountain biking and wine tasting. The well-known areas of Hussongs Cantina and Papas and Beer tend to have a younger crowd drinking tequila, or you may prefer the vineyards or cellars of Santo Tomas. Grey whales are seen seasonally off the coast as they migrate the western shores to and from Alaska each winter. https://www.ensenada-baja-vacations.com/ensenada-whale-watching.html My favorite hotel is Estero Beach Resort, where you can swim up to the bar and order a soft drink, or whatever you prefer. https://www.expedia.com/Ensenada-Hotels-Estero-Beach-Hotel-Resort.h4805281.Hotel-Information La Bufadora or the blowhole as we call it, is a massive marine geyser fed by a sea cave & reaching heights of over 100 ft. above sea level. You can listen to the waves going through the blowhole, and it’s worth the trip here. https://www.visitmexico.com/en/baja-california/ensenada/la-bufadora-geyser Be sure you get Mexican insurance before you drive there. https://www.bajabound.com/info/ Santo Tomas Winery is on the main street east of the harbor but walking distance. You can see what it was like in the early days when alter boys used to serve the wine to priests in church. You can walk down to see the cellars here. The restaurant next door is delightful, so make a reservation if you like, in advance. https://restaurantguru.com/Bodega-Santo-Tomas-Ensenada Today’s Travel Advice- Plan some things and leave a lot of unplanned days on your trip for some spontaneity. You don’t need to have a new destination every day. You may find that you want to stay longer, linger and enjoy the roses. Give yourself time to get to know your destination before you leave so soon.
